FOR COMMUNITY HEROES « fis bber jailed A 37-year-old man was jailed 24% years on Feb. 2 for his part in a vio- lent robbery of an elderly North Vancouver motel clerk. Brain Spence pleaded guilty to robbins 67-year-old Haiderali Karim on Sept. 1, 1999 at the Canyon Court Motel on Capilano Road. Spence, a former North Vancouver resident with no fixed address, had been in jail since his arrest in September. He was beaten several times during the rob- bery. North Vancouver provincial court — Judge Jerome Paradis prohibited Spence for possessing guns for 10 years. On Oct. 29, Spence’s co- accused Richard — Lorne Mitchell, 29, of West Vancouver, was jailed three years for the robbery and nine North Shore burglaries. As part of the City's Volunteer Recognition and Appreciation Program, the City would like to receive nominations for its COMMUNITY HEROES AWARDS. Community Heroes are volunteers (City residents and others), who have made outstanding contributions to the well being of the City of North Vancouver and its residents.
