will get a new assistant,
but for only four days a
week.

“It’s simply about being a
good emplover,” said Coun,
Craig Keating who voted in

issued a report asking for a
second, full-time — assistant
because her work toad had

lic relations, scheduling, corre-
spondence, merchandising,
eutreach programs and activi-
ties related to sister-city activi-
ties in places like Vaileyticld,

The mayor's Dee. 7 report
was then referred to staff for
comment and returned this
week for discussion.

Staff have since come to
the conclusion that the “need
has been established” and have
endorsed the mayor's request.
“The public demands a great
deal from the mayor's office.”

to the idea and spoke out
against the issue. “I found the
report (from: staff) insufficient
because it, did not compare
other municipalities of the
same size,” he said.

He said that the city has
been spending too much
money on the mayor lately and
that it was time to stop,
Specifically, he said that the
mayor's advertising costs, her
monthly $690 car allowance
and the $46,000 spent on the
new office renovations ‘are
more than enough. “We've
had huge increases over the
past year,” he said. “I think it
is outrageous.”
