quench a thirst

Home tap filter technology cuts down chlorine

WPE’RE having a heat
wave.

As the mercury soars so
does the body’s need for flu-
ids.

Chances are you'll twist
off the cap on a bottle of beer
or soda pop rather than reach
for a glass of water.

A recent survey found
tat each day the average per-
son drinks nearly eight glass-
es of liquid, such as water,
milk, juice or decafteinated
soft drinks.

But respondents said they
also drink nearly five glasses
of beverages with caffeine or
alcohol every day.

Scientific research shows
that caffeine and alcohol
deprive the body of the water
necessary for the body's
physiology.

“Water supports every
major function in the body. It
regulates body temperature,
carries nutrients and oxygen
to cells, removes wastes, and
protects joints, organs and
tissues,” said Dr. Barbara
Levine from the Nutrition
Information Center in New
York.

Although most people
know they need to drink
more water daily, less than
half of the people surveyed
actually do.

more interesting, conipanies
are selling water that is car-
bonated, flavored or sweer-
ened.

So-called “bottled spring
water” has also become a
popular, but — expensive
option.

Faucet manufacturers are

now making faucets that filter
water at the main point-of-
use in the home to improve
quality.

Mocn, for example, has
designed a new kitchen
faucet with a built-in’ filter

potentially harmful cysts.

Moen’s
improves the taste of tap
water without removing the
beneticial minerals and fluo-
ride.
