Centre plannin activities DURING CANADA Environment Week, June 4-12, the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre is offer- ing a number of workshops and talks geared for the whale family. On Saturday, June 4, Richard Beard is giving a fascinating slideshow on local butterflies. The next day, June 5, children and adults can build a Chick: ade nesting box. Supplies are provid- ed free af charge, just bring alang, your own hammer. Pre-registration is necessary. On Saturday, June 11, visitors can help enhance one of the largest remaining saltwater marshes on the North Shore by picking up garbage at the Maplewood Mudflats Conservation Area. The clean-up starts at 10 a.m. and pre-registration is necessary. Bring along a pair of binocu- lars and you may spot one of the ospreys which nest in the area. Alsa on June 11 the Northwest Wildlife Preservation Society is giving a slideshow for al) ages on B.C, bears. To end the week’s activities the Ecology Centre will be host to two special feathered guests, R.T. the red-tailed hawk and Oddey the barn owl, as part of a presentation being put on by the Owl Rehabilitation Society. Outdoor School to host open house soon NORTH VANCOUVER Outdoor School (NVOS) will be hosting its annual Open House on May 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All facilities will be open to the public. Activities will include: * salmon try releases; ° farm tours; * Salish cultural activities in the Big House; * Hay wagon rides, canoeing and archery; * Live music; ¢ Face painting and other child-cen- tred activities; and « “Walk ‘n’ win” with prize from Outdoor School supporter artist Bruce Muir. Special events will include show and sale of works by local artists and craftspeople; plant and bake sale; silent auction and white elephant sale. Each year, 1,000 visitors to the open house at Outdoor School enjoy this chance to sample NVOS's many attractions, facilities and park-like setting. Summer picnic food will be available, providing a perfect chance for a family outing.
