12 - Sunday, March 27, 1994 - North Shore News IF YOU look around the North Shore, you'll notice that more and more landmarks — parks, street names and buildings — are being named after people. There’s Gertrude Lawson House, Mollie Nye Way, Mickey Macdougall Gym, Pauline Johnson School, Dorothy Lynas School, John Lawson Park, Chief Mathias Joe Park, and Karen Magnussen Arena — just to nume a few. In North Vancouver City, the newest park was recently named Norman MacLeod Park in honor of the neighborhood pio- neer who ran a post office and general store from 1912 {to 1958. One thing that all of these people have in common is that they all contributed to the North Shore community. Each F riday in the North Shore News, Dorothy Foster highlights a local landmark in her North Shore Herijage column, In iearning about the histories of our local land- marks, we also fearn about the people who were part of those histories. It is with honor that we name our land- marks after them. INQUIRING REPORTER Should more landmarks be named after significant community contributors?
