New soap shot |
in North Van

NORTH VANCOUVER is starr-
ing in a new CBC-TV evening
soap directed at young audiences.
But it isn’t playing itself. It’s star-
ring as a make-believe town called
Northwood, which also happens
to be the name of the show.

Virtually all of the six half-hour
episodes (it premieres March 4 at
8:30 p.m.), were filmed in various
locations around North Van-
couver.

The kids’ hangout, called The
Oassis in the show, is really your
friendly neighborhood Dairy
Queen across from Lynn Valley
Mall. Northwood high school is in
fact Argyle Secondary, and the
houseboat on which Brian (Darrell
Dennis) and his father live was
shot on North Vancouver’s indus-
trial waterfront.

Two of the principal actors live
in North Vancouver. Gabe
Khouth has starred in Neon Rider,
MacGyver, and 21 Jumpstreet. He
plays Michael Thomas, [6, the
class clown.

Trevor Hughes plays Peter
Larsson, a 16-year-old at odds
with his strong-willed athlete fa-
ther.

Although they play high school
students, only two of the show's
actors — ranging in age from 15
to 25 — actually attend school.

Northwood looks at such issues
as sex, drugs, suicide and peer
pressure.

The first episode will be one
hour; the rest of the shows are
