Frank Mills comes
to North Vancouver

CANADA'S KING of the Melodic
Piano and three-time Juno award
winner Frank Mills comes io North
Vancouver's Centennial Theatre
on Nov. 26 as part of a national
tour,

Mills, best known for his song,
Music box Dancer, which topped
the charis ip 26 countries and said
two mitlies copies of sheet nusic,

will perform one night only.

Capital Records recently re eas-
ed all of his recordings on <om-
pact dies, and his latest album,
called My Piano, is referred 1 by
Mills as “Must: Box Cancer Two
albu.”

infectious qualities of good cheer

dining contemporaries.

Evening greetings dispatched,
we started with 2 Won Ton soup
($4.95, small order). it was unex-
ceptional, but good for the mini-

whose tastebuds appreciate an ex-
tremely limited saporous range:
peanut butter to cheese burgers,
hold the lettuce, tomato and
onions.

Honey Garlic Spareribs ($8.95),
another order made with wee folk
in mind, provided a good balance
of honey sweet and garlic savory
that can be appreciated by all ages
and palates.

An order of Barbecued Duck
($7.95 tor a half duck) was very
good.

For starters, there was lots of
duck meat and few of thuse odd-
tcoking duck bones that can be so
unsettling to those diners familiar
only with the skeletal configura-
tions of chickens.

And the meat was imbued with
hoisin and other exotic and floral
oriental flavors.

Spicy Prawns ($10.95) provided
generous portions of prawns, but
thankfully limited portions of
green penpers and white onions,
the all-purpose vegetable duo us-
ed too often in Chinese cooking as
plate filler.

The dish was mildly spicy, with
subdued curry flavors and the oc-
casional hot pepper to add a sub-
tle afterburn.

Qn the lighter side, we tried
some Chow Fun ($6.95). The dish
came heaped with ihin
Singapore-style rice noodles, hot
peppers, sti-fried egg, green pep -
pers, slices of beef and bean
sprouts.

it,too, had a stignt spicy kick and,
hike the other dishes, was not too
greasy.

Oh dessert, rizht kids?

Though the wee folk taste ap-
preciation range expands
dramatically here, | try not to get
too exotic. Neither do most
Chinese food restaurants,

The New Woodbine’s Jello and
Snowballs therefore come highly
recommended. The latter is a vi-
sually exciting mixture of vanilla
ice cream bails topped with choc-
olate sauce and grated coconut
that is guaranteed to absorb and
expand limited attention spans
and temporarily silence thase who
suffer trom eternal fidgetosis.

The New Woodhine carries on
the neighborhood traditions of the
Old Woodbine inn.

Good for families and other
neighbars.
