1 followed fruits de mer with that
grand old crustacean of the sea, Le
Homarsd “‘Nature’’ (fresh whole
steamed lobster, $22.95).

The meat of lobsters is sweet
and rich, but it can be somewhat
bland, La Belle Sole’s version was
served with a piquant zucchini
and tamato vegetable melange,
which was excellent, though visu-
ally drab, and provided a good
sharp foil to the lobster meat.

Scalloped-sty!e potatoes were
also provided, ay was a small bow!

from the appetizer section.

lt provided copious portions of
fruits de mer, including shrimp,
prawns, scallops thick and sweet,
mussels and lox-style salmon, all
marinated in olive oil and herbs.

Garnish with two slices of sweet
melon, lots of sweet tomatoes,
slices of celery and shredded car-
rots and you indeed have La Belle
cuisine.

The marinade was a little too
subdued for me and could have
used more snap, but it did allow
the seafood flavors to speak tor
themselves. Too often, they are

limited, despite the aforemention-
ed and intriguing display of Beau-
jolais Nouveau.
We did, however, sample a
good 1986 Bardolino Boila
($21.95) that set an extremely

pleasurable tone for the evening.
As the restaurant's name would
suggest, La Belle Sole specializes
in food from the sea. Menu
seafood selections outnumber red
meat dishes two to one,
We sampled La Marinade de

For dessert we selected Prot-
iteroles ($4.95), which arrived
topped in contrasting black and
white liquid chocolate, stufted
with vanilla ice cream and topped
with whipped cream, a sprig of
mint and a slice of orange.

The dish is a personal favorite,
but the pastry supplied at La Belle
Sole was somewhat stale.

La Belle Sole has made great
strides since my last visit, and
though it is relatively expensive, |
recommend it for good seafood in
a pleasunt West Vancouver
seaside location,
