The North Shore Gardens 89 Contest ended with an awards night on Friday, Sept. 29 at the Delbrook Centre. The mayors of the three North Shore municipalities, aldermen, honored guests and all participants were in- vited to the event. Mayors Baker, Loucks and Lan- skail presented the awards and guest speaker Brian Minter gave an illustrated talk on winter color. Slides taken of gardens entered in the contest were shown and volun- teers from the West Vancouver Garden Club provided refresh- ments and flower arrangements. A raffle was held with prizes donated by Capilano Nurseries, Avant Gardener, The Bay Garden Centre, Gardens West, Mouldens Ltd., West Vancouver Florists, Watsons Gloves, Mrs. D. Morgan and Mr. T. Miele. This has been the fourth and — contest organizers say — the most successful year of the North Shore contest. The response in terms of numbers of gardens and the quali- ty displayed overwhelmed the committee who found it a daunting task to choose among so many gardens. In the coming year, organizers hope to hold a spring contest, a summer contest and a gardens tour.
