Ten Chena swimmers earned qualifying times at the Canada Cup International, a meet which included competitors from seven countries. Catherine Schier, 16, achieved best times in the 100-metre fly, 200-metre free style and fly, and the 400-metre freestyle. Schier placed fourth in the 200-metre fly championship final, and first in the 100-metre fly consolations. Chena Swim Club also scored good times at the Hyack Long Course Invitational, where 605 swimmers participated from Unit- ed States, Costa Rica and Canada. Litza Anderson achieved youth time in the 100-metre backstroke and will be going to New Brunswick for the Canadian Youth Championships. Gerela also took a gold in the 50-metre freestyle and Thompson added two siivers for his time in the 100 and 200-metre breast stroke. Chena sent 11 swimmers to the Bellevue April Showers Senior Meet where Schier won three golds in the 100 and 200-metre fly and 200-metre freestyle races. Elissa Purvis earned a gold in the 800- metre freestyle event. Five Chena swimmers took home gold medals from the Cana- dian Dolphin First Annual Invita- tional. These winners were Marek Hejduk in the 100-metre breast stroke, Thompson in the 100 and 200-metre breast stroke, Purvis in the 200-metre breast stroke, Schier in the 100-metre fly and Michelle Woods in the 200-metre freestyle.
