“Marzox . Shore shouid better transit share Dear Editor: It seems to me that | and many others are unwilling victims of triple taxation: bus fares have been sharply increased to help pay for the expensive SkyTrain component of the transit system, gasoline taxes have been imposed in the Greater Vancouver area to help pay for the expensive SkyTrain component of the transit system, and a Regional Transit Levy has been imposed to help pay for the expensive SkyTrain com- ponent of the transit system. North Shore residents and taxpuyers have been waiting for many years for improvements to. the Hastings and Cassiar problem and the Lonsdale and Westview bottlenecks on the Upper Levels Highway, to say nothing of a possible third crossing of Burrard Inlet. In fact the only step taken to help alleviate traf- fic problems to and from the North Shore within the past 20 or 25 years was the develapment of the SeaBus. We are told that the North Vancouver bus depot is to be closed down and storage and maintenance operations transferred to Burnaby, which means extra travelling time for both buses and drivers to and from Burnaby to the North Shore, particularly at Cassiar and Hastings during peak traffic hours. Is there some logical explanation of these regional transit levies which only go to help pay for solutions to traffic problems in other municipalities? Why can- not North Shore residents expect the same measure of concern for their traffic problems that is being exhib- ited for those other municipalities included within the GVRD? R. Hin North Vancouver ‘Copter noise a nuisance Dear Editor: with the problem is to report every © Canada for noiye complaints. May | add my voice to those such instance by calling 666-4916, David Macaree complaining of helicopter noise on — the number set aside by Transport West Vancouver the North Shore. In so doing, | speak for the many who seek the peace of our Mountains only to have it destroyed by these magnified horseflics. Nothing is more in- furiating when walking a ridge or sitting on a peak than being buzzed by these machines with their gawk- ing sightseers. The nuisance is particularly bad in the area of the Lions. In fact, residents of Lions Bay must also get more than their fair share of noise given that the choppers often do a swing around the West Lion before returning so base via the west side of Howe Sound.
