WEST VAN COUNCIL
Seniors seek funding

THE WEST Vancouver Senior
Citizens Society has asked local
council to assist in funding the new
addition to the West Vancouver
Kiwanis Centre, which is nearing
completion.

Costing about $140,000, the ad-
dition enlarges the residence’s
fibrary and recreation room and
creates a non-denominational cha-
pel. The senior citizens society is
requesting a grant of $4,000 to
$5,000 from the District of West
Vancouver.

The society has already allocated
$110,000 of its funds to the
building of the shell, and is trying
to raise the remainder needed to
finish the interior.

“*Long past due,’’ is the way the
society’s finance committee chair-
man J.E. Millard has described the
new addition.

The 10-year-old Kiwanis Centre
provides 120 low-cost apartments

to seniors, plus an 8S-bed extended
care lodge. The facdicy employs 37
full-time equivalent staff.

The non-denominational chapel
is for the benefit of the centre's

shut-in and non-ambulatory resi-
dents. Rector Edward H. Wallace
has been conducting services at the
Kiwanis Centre library for the past
10 years, with growing attendance.
