He re- mains a singular talent. His involvement in Van- couver’s music scene goes back to 1969, when he arriv- ed, at age 15, from Capreol, Ontario. He has since built an impeccable musical reputation, both critical and popular, playing solos, duos, trios, and quartets; all with equally positive critique: “*Raven is the real thing’’. He has replaced human back-up with the tatest technological back-up of drum machine and syn- thesizer in his latest solo in- carnation. The money will pay the salaries of three theatre stu- dents. Open Stage interviewed 32 applicants from UBC, Langara College, and North Shore secondary schools. Chris Dorey, a 21-year-old graduate from Carson Graham’s Theatre Depart- ment; Sean Wardell, a grade 12 theatre student at West Vancouver Secondary; and, Joanne ~DaSilva, an 18- year-old graduate fror Argyle Theatre Department were selected. The three will help Open Stage’s: Summer School director Coryne Hockley and administrator Ann ’ Johnson to run the program at North Shore Neighbourhocd House. Open Stage is offering three classes: ages, five to eight: nine to 12 years; and 13 to 16 years, Classes will run for two, four-week ses- sions starting on July 2 and July 29, Pianists compete BRITISH. COLUMBIA will be well represented by four North Vancouver youths at the Canadian Music Com- petition finals this summer. Aspiring pianists Jor:athan Tang, Judy Tang, Betty Tang and Nicholas Maloff will join twenty-four other . British Columbians in Win- nipeg July 6-16 to compete for top awards. The young prodigys will perform works by Kuhlau, Hyden, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Beethoven.
