Whistier gets

free parkland :

‘THE RESORT Municipality
of Whistler will receive three
parcels of free Crown land for
park use, Lands, Parks and
Housing Minister Tony Brum-
met has announced.

The three parcels, totalling
17.63 hectares (43% acres) are
located at Alpha Lake, Alta
Lake and Green Lake.

_ The nearly ten acres east of
‘Alta Lake will be developed by
the municipality as a picnic

‘ area to enhance the existing
Lakeside Park fronting on the.

lake. There will also be a park-
ing site for access to the beach,
and an eight foot pedestrian,
bicycle and cross-country ski
trail. ;

Five acres fronting on

Alpha Lake is intended for lit-
tle development, the emphasis
being on preserving the
natural state of the area.

Over twenty-eight acres
west of Green Lake will be
developed to include playing
fields, tennis courts, and pic-
nic areas to serve the public
and residents of the nearby
Alpine Meadows and Emerald
Estates subdivisions.

of land will provide a valuable
recreational resource both for
residents and visitors and will
be an important addition to
the many attractions of the
resort municipality.
