Ald. Stella Jo Dean led East 17th Street to 513 East 20th Street, into an area where other houses are about 25 years old. “If it was moving next to me, I would certainly object,’’ Dean told Monday night’s meeting of council. The map below illustrates zone boundaries. The important thing to remember is that the zone fares only apply during weekday peak hours — Monday- Friday before 9:30 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Fare for travel within a single zone or travel in off peak will be 85¢ for adults, 45¢ for senior citizens - with Pharmacare cards, students with GoCards and children 5-11 years. For adults, the fare to cross one zone boundary will be $1.00. To cross both zone boundaries the fare will be $1.25. For senior citizens, students and children the fare to cross one boundary will be 55¢ and 65¢ te cross both boundaries. Before 9:30 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. PEAK PERIOD ZONES. An example of each type of peak period tnp is indicated on the map. ceeee A one zone or local trip means no zone boundanes can be crossed. For example, a trip wholly within Richmond Or wholly within Vancouver. — — — — Altwozone tnp means one zone boundary may be crossed. For example, you could go from North Vancouver to Vancouver. Or from Delta to Richmond. You can cross the same boundary twice, if travelling in the same direction without paying extra. For example, you may travel from the North Shore into Vancouver and continue into Rachmond @m@me A multi-zone tnp means both zone boundanes may be crossed to make a one way tnp For example, from White Rock to downtown Vancouver Or from West Vancouver to Surrey. Vancouver Regional Transit System lam With the present flat fare structure, passengers making short trips pay the same as long distance users. Obviously it costs more to carry long distance riders. The new distance-based fares for peak hour travel are designed to distribute the i costs of transit more equally. Generally, the fares will be higher for longer trips than shorter ones. And, that’s fair. Under the new fare plan, fares will make up a greater portion of the costs than they have in the past. Bren with this improved cost recovery rate, ours is still one of the lowest in Canada. The Vancouver Regional Transit System is the largest system in Canada. Nearly twice as large an area as Toronto's. Yet, the new base fare of 85¢ will still be lower than that of most other major systems. Orr PEAK TRAVEL INCENTIVE. To try to reduce rush hour congestion we're giving people who have a choice of travel time a reason to ride the bus during off peak hours. During the week from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and evenings after 6:30 p.m., you can go anywhere by transit for a flat fare. Weekends and holidays are also flat fare times; 85¢ for adults, 45¢ for senior citizens, students and children. Here ts a handy reminder you can carry with you.
