It contained over $60 and all my ID. I never ex- pected to see it again. At the most I figured it might show up in a week or two with only the ID left in it. After much searching, asking around and panic (only half the money was my own), | finally went to the police station to report it lost. To my surprise and joy. someone had already turned it in. All the money was there, missing. By that ume | was so worked up that I forgot to ask the name of the person who had retumed it. This letter is to thank her or him and to let the rest of the world know that even in these hard times there are still honest people around. I thank this particular honest person from the bottom of my heart and | hope she or he sees this letter and realizes how grateful lam. not a cent was Liz Gilmour North Vancouver Let’s take pride in bilingualism Dear Editor: Too many times of late I have heard negative com- ments about the wonderful tradition in our country, of bilingualism. For those of us who are proud of this heritage, I feel it is time to speak out. Our nation is a tapestry richly woven with the many cultures and backgrounds of the families that make up her people. The fact that we are officially and legally a nation of two languages and the cultural tolerance implied in that fact comprises the strongest of threads in the weaving. For in the learning of a language, an understanding of the roots, history and culture of that language is experienced. To be allowed the opportunity to gain this understanding, this ex- perience, not only in one's Mother tongue, but also in another language 1s a great privilege. It allows one to see the world from = another's eyes. With that = privilege. however, comes a_ certain Dine & Dance Music by Johnny Fuoco & Patricia Friday and Saturday Join us on Mother’s Day and let us buy Mom Dinner with Our Compliments f Weekly Lunch Spectato| launches. Those of us in the West who speak only one language feel a certain lack, next to those who have mastered two or more tongues. We recognize that we have missed something. Those in the East in the same predicament must share these feelings of inadequacy. To preserve, and indeed enrich the fabric of our country, we must encourage and educate our young in the duality, the double strength of a unified Canada. Perhaps these phrases are trite; these metaphors extra- vagant, but in a world of increasing cynicism and self- interest, I feel the need of a retum to the imagery and vision of our ancestors. To be a citizen of a Canada that sets an example of unity, tolerance and bi-culturalism makes me proud. It will, | hope, be with honour that my children assume the nation’s bright robe of br culturalism and with wisdom that they care for it Mrs ME SBaacr. In the context of this necessity, one can See a growing demand for quality child care, either at the density tn developments in return for space for child Care. At present one of every two women in Canada is working for pay, and 44% of the wives, in husband-wife families with children under the age of six, are in the In 1980 there work place within the community.
