Fire risk closes Hollyburn Mountai

Hollyburn Mountain was
being closed Friday to access
by the public this weekend
because of a fire hazard
rating said to be extreme,
although Cypress Bowl was
being left open.

The inconsistency arises
because the mountain areas
are administered by different
authorities. The
municipality of West
Vancouver, which operates
Hollyburn, decided to in-
troduce a closure, whereas
the parks branch which runs
Cypress Bowl, as well as
Mount Seymour and other
areas, decided a fire ban
would be sufficient at that
time.

West Van Fire Depart-
ment said Hollyburn is
completely closed to the
public, including. cabin

A North Vancouver rape
victim has been awarded
$3,062 by the Worker's
Compensation Board.

The 19-year-old) woman
had suffered = multiple
contusions and a. state of
anxicty as a result of the
rape.

She had been attacked,
threatened and dragged into
a ditch near a parking lot,
which was where the rape
took place.

Owners, and that people
cannot use trails to reach the
lodge.

In North Vancouver
District, fire chief Bob
McDonald said he is con-
cerned about the condition
of forest areas but at News
press time he was merely
imposing fire bans.

But he added that if the
dry weather continued over
the weekend he would likely
be imposing’ certain
restrictions in the forests.

Such restrictions would
likely affect the public use of
certain trails on Grouse and
at Lynn Canyon = and
Capilario Park. ,

And if there was still no
sign of rain, he said, “there
would probably be a more
strict closure.”
