Specialized tutor training begins Tuesday, Jan. 29 for volunteers who are willing to work with children having learning disabilities. Interviews for volun- teers are now under way. The volunteer tutoring program gives one-to-one support for stu- dents with mild to severe problems in learning academic skills. The program recruits and carefully selects volunteers to become tutors. Upon completion of a comprehensive training pro- gram, the volunteers are then plac- ed to tutor one child for one hour per day, twice a week for a full Shape up this year {F YOUR New Year’s resolution is to get in shape the North Shore Neighbourhood House may be able to offer some help. The house holds over 10 aerobic fitness classes per week, ranging from mild intensity to moderate plus intensity. All classes are in- structed by registered and certified instructors. The drop-in adult fee to attend a fitness class is $3.75 or participants can choose to purchase an adult fitness disc, valid for unlimited at- tendance from March 20 to June 30, for $55. There are also special tates for teens and adults over 65. Participants are reminded that they may also use the disc for any fitness class offered by the North Vancouver Recreation Commis- sion. Currently, there are over 180 classes per week at nine different locations.
