Robert Galster News Reporter robert@nsnews.com SEVERAL North Vancouver neighbor- hood pubs have been targets in a string of burglaries. The most recent involved the Pemberton Station Pub on Pemberton Avenue. It was the second break- in at the watering hole in less than two weeks. “They broke in and stole the lotto pull tab machine,” said the bar’s bartender, Don Emmons, of a Feb. 12 incident. “They broke in and tried to get the lotto machine again (on Feb. 25), but this time we triple bolted it.” “The whole bar is full of booze and they didn’t touch it,” added Emmons. Meanwhile, the Rusty Gull pub on East Ist Street was hit in the early morning hours of Feb. 24, Gull owner Bob Savage said damage to the estab- lishment’s door was more significant than the value of the stolen items. He said the burglars’ booty consisted of a bortle of green Creme de Menthe, Malibu rum, several cans of beer and a couple packs of cigarettes. “T guess they were low on beer or something at 3:30 in the morning,” said Savage. He said the glass panel mounted in the pub’s front doors that the burglars broke will cost approxi- mately $1,200 to replace. The panel was originally designed for him about six years ago. It had the out- line of a gull carved into glass more than a half-inch thick. When Savage arrived at the pub after receiving a call from the alarm company, one of the glass panels had been shattered. “l had to come here and hang out ‘til the morming because (without the glass panel) anyone could walk in,” said Savage. “While the police were here they got another calf to the Queens Cross.” Upper Lonsdale’s Queens Cross pub was hit the same night, but a spokesman at the bar said nothing was stolen. North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Const. Tom Seaman said the break and enters were likely com- mitted by the same sus- pects. “The investigations arc ongoing and information is always coming in and we're confident we'll solve these in duc course,” said Seaman, pointing to more than 20° recently solved North Vancouver break and enters. Seaman added that peo- ple, and particularly busi- nesses, should invest good security measures, including alarm systems, to ward off intruders.
