CHAMBER NEWS THE NORTH Vancouver Chamber of Commerce has em- barked on the Adopt-an-Athilete program to sponsor the four North Vancouver athletes training for the national team for the 1994 Commonwealth Games. It will cost $1.5 million to send the Canadian team to the games next summer in Victoria and chambers of commerce across Canada have set a goal to raise the entire amount through the Adopt-an-Athlete program. Canadian decathlete Michael Smith, a gold medalist at the 1990 games, will be the national spokesman for the campaign. North Vancouver Com- monwealth team member Char- maine Crooks thanked the chamber on behalf of the four athletes who are now training to qualify in their events for the na- tional team. Chamber manager Judi Ainsworth said the chamber is committed to adopting all of the athletes from the community.
