BUSINESS BRIEFS BANK VISIT BANK OF Montreal president Anthony Comper attended a series of meetings this week with employees from the bank’s North Vancouver branches to learn first-hand how the bank's new community banking Strategy is working with the people it is meant for: branch employees and their customers. “Customers told us that they wanted their banking decisions made right in their own com- munities,’’ said Comper. “By the end of 1992, we had completed our three-year decen- ‘tralization into 250 largely self- sufficient communities. These are clusters of branches managed by senior bankers who work and live in those communities. “As a result, the vast majority of banking transactions are being decided at the local level by the bankers who know our customers best,”’ said Comper. The Bank of Montreal's North Vancouver community is one of the 250 Bank of Montreal com- munities across Canada. It is made up of eight branches and the work of the North Vancouver branches is led by vice-president Deborah J. Casey, who also manages the community flagship branch, Upper Lonsdale, in the neighborhood where she lives. Her-area of executive responsi- . bility .also includes the four- branch West Vancouver com- munity and the three-branch Sun- shine Coast community. _, During breakfast and lunch meetings with employees and visits to all seven North Vancouver _ branches, Comper said his * primary interest is to encourage two-way communication with employees to get a realistic view of how the decentralization strat- egy is working. “I’m here to answer any ques- tions. our employees may have about our new strategy for decen- tralized decision-making and en- SECURED DEBENTURES fa high tech software company established in 1987 14% interest paid quarterly (RRSP eligible) Minimum $25,000 to Sophisticated Investors as defined in the BC.
