The funds are provided by the Asia Pacific Initiative (API), a private sector advisory body set up by the provincial and federal gov- ernments, which sponsored the school competition aimed at enhancing awareness and apprecia- tion of the province’s cultural diversity. “It's great.’ said Sutherland Secondary School vice-principal Don Peters. ‘*We’re delighted.’’ He added that the school will use part of the money for im- provements to its English as a Se- cond Language classes and other multicultural programs. Sutherland teachers Bev Cowie and Corinne Casteel were the two teachers who put the proposal togetner and submitted it to the APT tin February. A total of 104 submissions from around the province were judged by a panel of educators and repre- sentatives of multicultural agen- cies.
