Hofbauer wins stakes, title RIDING FOR pleasure can be profitable, especially if your name is Barb Hofbauer and you're riding the Western Pleasure Stakes. Hofbauer was one of the big winners at last Sunday's All-Western Horse Show sponsored by the North Shore Horseman's AT BATHTUB MEET Association at the Laura Lynn Stables. , She won the single class pleasure stakes and the $20 grand prize. In second with $12 was Shannon Saunders, and Shaun Davis followed to earn the $7 purse for third. Hofbauer also won the Junior overall title for the day. Lisa Dzioba was the top Intermediate rider, and Terry Banks the Senior. Approximately 50 riders turned out for.the day-long Show which was rated a success, . particularly by the food concession operators. The NSHA’s next show will be held Sunday, Aug. 15 Nor’westers win 27 medals A RECENT trip to Nanaimo for the Bathtub Invitational track and field mect saw most of the junior development Nor’westers bring home at least one medal apicce. Nineteen young athictes returned with 27 medals from the July 10 meet which attracted 500 participants. Sigrid Otto, 12, cared two golds in the 1,500 and 800 metres for one of the stronger performances of the day. At the 9 and 10-year old level, Diana Osborne was a stand-out attraction, carning golds in the 100 and 400 metres and a silver in the long jump. Trevor Craven, 12, joined Oto in dominating the distance cverfts, again taking golds in the 1500 and 800 and a bronze in the 400. Golden performer at the 14-year old level was Steven Dong who posted wins in the 100 metres and triple jump and a second in the 400 metres.
