18 ~ Sunday, May 17, 1987 - North Shore News Entertainment — SPECIAL PUBLIC SHOW NORTH SHORE residents Pippa Purchase, Moe Jones, Daphne Squire, Gordi Moore and David Woodhouse will perform May 23 when The Kirby Singers appear on stage. A common sight at various local conventions and other private functions, the group is putting on this special public show for its Lower Mainland fans. “Every three years or so we put on a public performance for peo- ple who don’t get to see us,’’ said Elsie Kirby, who founded the group two decades ago. It’s choreographed; it’s along the lines of the Manhattan Trans- fer,’’ the 12-year West Vancouver resident explained of her nine- member singing group. Many of the nine members are active in other local theatre pro- ‘jects besides the group. David Woodhouse has performed with the North Shore Light Opera. “They teach on the North Shore many of them,” Kirby said of her group’s singers. ‘‘They work full time and they also do a lot of community work.’’ The May 23 evening of a dinner, dancing and two floor shows at the Skystage Theatre Restaurant in Richmond will cost $20 a person or $35 a couple.
