College president Doug Jardine said Tuesday’s announcement that the ministry of education would contribute $800,000 to the project, knocked down the final hurdle that had kept the college from initiating a public fund-raising program for the project. “Without the commitment of the local and ‘provincial gov- ernments, we could not have hoped to begin any successful public fund raising,’’ Jardine said. In addition to the provincial government’s announced $800,000 contribution, Jardine said-the col- lege was seeking a further $400,000 from the provincial lottery fund to make up the balance of the estimated $1.2 million needed from the province. Financial commitment from the provincial government follows the $400,0G0 recently earmarked for the project by the District of North : Vancouver. Through a_ $5-per-student-per- term levy, Cap College students’ have committed $700,090 to the gymnasium project..
