Job training pays off in life saving

WHEN NORTH Shore B.C,
Tel worker Gordon Crossley
saved the life of a motor
vehicle accident victim
recently, he acted on the ins-
tant energy of adrenalin —
and called upon the
knowlege of first aid
priorities and skills gained
from a basic first aid course
and as a member of a B. Cc,
Tel first aid team.

Only after the fact did he
realize that he had sprinted
from his truck to the acci-
dent site — despite a knee
still recovering from surgery

one trained'in first aid had
been on the scene.

When ‘Crossley reached
him, the victim was un-
conscious, not breathing,

way, ensured the victim was
breathing, and checked for
serious bleeding.

After checking the back of
the cyclist” s neck for spinal
injuries, he removed the
strap from the man’s helmet
and gently moved his patient
to the injured side momen-
tarily, then tilted his head.
This tilted blood out of the
mouth and unblocked the air
passage.

“We were lucky," said
Crossley, ‘‘He started to
breathe then.”
