The wind, which was moderate in the early morning, died away to nothing a few minutes be- fore the start and most boats crossed the start line at Dundarave with a lot of help from the ebb and much laughter and shouting. The light easterly breeze switched around to westerly and increased to eight to 10 knots during the first leg to Pt. Atkinson as many boats made a long tack out to mid-channel to take advan- tage of the stronger current there. The second leg was a reach to the bell buoy off Spanish Banks. In the race for prizes, competition was as heavy for Best Dressed Boat and Best Bribe Attempt as it was for First to Finish and the sights to be seen during the race were as imaginative as the prize categories.
