Symposium to study education for peace

WHAT EFFECT does it
have on children and
teenagers to know that at
any time their lives may be
cut horribly short by a
nuclear holocaust? And
what is the social
responsibility of educators in
facing that threat?

These are two of the
important questions which
will be discussed in
Educating for Peace, a
symposium organized by the
Political Science and
Sociology departments of
Capilano College in co-
operation with Educators for
Nuclear Disarmament, to
take place the wéekend of
May 7/8 at the college.

On the first day of the two-
day conference, _ entitled
“Education and the Arms
Race: Learning the Lessons

Vancouver.

It takes place Saturday,
May 7, at St. Agnes
Anglican Church, 530 East

Vancouver. Sunday is “A
Day of Workshops to
Explore Ideas and Make
Tools for Teaching Peace,”
and the concept of nuclear
education and teaching the
issues and facts in the
classroom will be studied,
with special workshops
geared to elementary,
secondary and post-
secondary tevels.

Organizers feel that the

symposium’s brochure says it
