Menzies warmed last week.

Speaking to a conference
on high technology Wed-
nesday, Ms. Menzies. author
of “Women and the Chip”
said hundreds of thousands
of women could be “dumped
by the wayside” during the
movement from the
mechanical age to the
computer age unless in-
dustry, government,
educators and women
themselves change their
attitudes.

She said traditional jobs
held by women, such as
fihmg and taking dictation,
are rapidly becoming
automated by the = tiny
computers) moving into
corporate offices.

“The office of the future
will employ = professional
knowledge workers capable
of handling = electrome
systems.” Menzies said, “and
unless Women can move into
these yobs the y ll miss oul.”
