MOSCOW (UPC) - Bonnie
Wittmeier of Winnipeg, the
hottest prospect on the
gymnastics horizon’ in
Canada, qualified for
Saturday's individual finals
at world. championships
Thursday, along with
teammates Elfi Schlegel and
Wittmeier scored 37.175
points on her optional
exercises for a compulsory-
optional total of 74.35. The
15-year-old’s worst result
Thursday was a nine on the
vault, and she also scored a
pair of 9.3s, allowing her to
place in a tie for 28th with
Marta Egervani of Hungary.
“I came here wanting to
do what I can do at home in
the gym... to do my best,”
she said. “I think I did. The
only thing I want now is to
have another solid meet

youngster has made
mapnificent progress.

“I would agree with you if
you said she was the hottest
prospect in Canada,”
Goermann said. “I don't see

The North-West Van-
couver Ringette Association
is now well into its fourth
season on the North Shore.
This season there are girls
playiag in all of the four
divisions, Petites, Tweens,
Junior Bellies and Belles,
with their ages ranging from
7 to 17. It ts the first time for
this area that there has been
girls playing the the Junior
Belle division (13-14 yrs.).

The Optimists Club of
North Vancouver, with the

motto “The Fmnends of
Youth", providéd the funds
to sponsor the new Junior
Belle teams, and 1s also
providing a trophy.

The division is now known
as the “Optimist Junior Belle
Division” and the teams will
wear the Optimists colours
of purple and gold.
