WV residents voice concern over traffic FROM PAGE At individual citizens’ concerns that council has not allowed enough time for sufficient public input. The draft plan was published at the beginning of June and the first session of the public hearing was held June 5. “Even after council ap proves the community plan, citizens will be able to bring about changes because the plan is essentially open- ended,” Humphnes assured about 40 residents at Monday's hearing. However, the several people who made a sub- mission thal evening were concerned with fairly broad issues — mainly the acquisition of parkland and new residential development in West Van. Jeanette Helmer attacked the proposed multi-level parking garages for Dun- darave and Ambleside. “Will parking garages add to our enjoyment of West Van in the near future. We need green spaces instead, where the population is heaviest,” she told council. The community plan should also recommend opening up the entire waterfront area to all West _Van_ residents, Margaret Philman said. “We need more small parks in neighborhoods even uf they're only big enough for a soccer game,” she added. Several other residents indicated they would not like to see the development of the Capilano Indian reserve until traffic problems already existing in the area are on the way to being solved. Director of Development Dr. Bob Collier said that all input from the public, either written or verbal, will be analyzed and, on the basis of that, council will issue a “council draft” community plan including amendments based on recommendations from council and the public. “The general public will” get a complete document,” Collier emphasized. Alderman Humphries also recommended that council not debate the bylaw ap proving the community plan until September.
