Blues down Royal Roads Capilano College Blues Men’s Basketball team defeated Royal Roads Military College 76-59 in a Totem Conference League game played on the Island Wednesday. Leading by eight points at the half, the Blues came out pressing in the second frame to pile up a 28 point lead allowing coach Nell Chester to use his bench throughout most of the second period. Craig Freeman was the Blues top marksman collecting 20 points and 12 rebounds, while forward Allan Campbell knotched 12 points and Terry Cameron scored 11 points for the winners. Despite their victory, the Blues appear to be suffering the effects of the long Christmas lay-off, shooting only 39% from the floor against Royal Roads, and turning the ball over 16 times. The Blues will have to play much better today when they host perennial Totem Conference champions Vancouver Community College Falcons. The Falcons are ranked number one in the province and number six in the country and are heavy favorites to repeat as first place finishers in both the men’s and women’s divisions. © I Following the Falcon game, the Blues are in Kelowna this weekend for an all-important double-header against the Okanagan College Lakers. In Volleyball meanwhile, the Blues women’s team lost their first league encounter dropping a_ close 16-14 decision to Douglas College in the fifth and deciding game of their best-of-five match.
