a pool just to spite the unseasonal weather, you may be in

Well-known Vancouver
swimwear chain Holliday’s
Funwear recently opened a bouti-
que in West Vancouver ta try a
unique retailing concept.

The Swiss Sports Haus at
Marine Drive and 15th St. in West
Vancouver has closed its doors for
the summer, as it has in previous
years because it relies on winter
business, but Bathing Beauty
(owned by Holliday’s) has now
sublet its space until Aug 15.

Bathing Beauty is stocked with
a variety of well-known swimwear
labels from Canada, the U.S. and
Europe and in a full selection of
styles. And you can pick up some
great bargains since currently the
stock is’ substantially . marked
down.

Holliday’s Funwear hopes to
continue leasing every summer
from. Swiss Sports Haus for
Bathing Beauty if the shared retail
space experiment. proves suc-
cessful.

Since there are few boutiques
devoted exclusively to swimwear
on the North Shore, it will no

should know about a great new
invention called a Pool Pant
Diaper. There is no need to have
your waterbaby. swim in soggy,
water-logged diapers.

Gabby’s Pool Pant Diaper was
designed in Calgary to meet the
heaith requirements of the Alberta
government for tiny (ots swim-
ming in public pools.

It was specially designed as a
practical and affordable way to
keep babies comfortable and
discourage ‘‘accidents’? in the
pool.

Most pools have banned the use
of disposable diapers as they
break down and clog the filters.
They are also not environmentally
friendly for swimming at a beach.

The only alternative used to be
a cloth diaper with a plastic pant,
but this filled with water and
acted as an anchor,

the tiny swimsuit serves the
same purpose as a, diaper and
rubber pants in the pool, but
won’t weigh the baby down when
wet,

It has a brightly colored rip-
stop nylon outer shell with a cot-

ton flannelette inner layer.

It is elasticized at the legs and
waist and has a patented beltlock
closure to prevent toddlers un-
dressing themselves.

They are available in size
Newborn to (4 lbs., Large for 14
to 25 Ibs. and Extra Large for up
to 40 Ibs., in six summer colors:
blue, pink, black, jade, yeliow and
purple. The cost is $10, $12 or $33
depending on the size.

Matching T-shirts, hats, and
diaper covers in a variety of fash-
ionable prints are sold for sun
protection outdoors and warmth
at indoor pools.

They are sold at North and
West Vancouver pools and in
Vancouver at selected kidswear
boutiques inlcuding Splash Dance,
Aunt Em’s, Bev Boys Co., Kids
Expressions and Room For Two.

The Pool Pant Diaper was
designed by environmentalist Luk
Baskerville with husband and
business manager Jeremy, who
own Gabby’s, a Calgary company
selling a variety of baby products.

Gabby’s also makes diapers,
liners, wipes, nursing pads,
sweatshirts and diaper covers.

Bagatelle
has gained
a partner

WELL-KNOWN leather and
sportswear manufacturer Bagatelle
ran into financial trouble earlier
this year, but is stable once again.

The company, which has been
selling in Canada since the ’60s in
top department stores including
Holt Renfrew and Eaton’s, found
it needed to regroup and has been
partially sold to a Montreal com-
pany called Kovac Manufacturing.

Kovac is now in 50% partner-
ship with Bagatelle designer
Margaret Godfrey and sales man-

ager Michael Litvac, and the new
Bagatelle will be a separate com-
pany.

The new ‘Bagatelle line ‘will
maintain the same quality and
styling, though it will now include
some woven and knitted clothing
as well as leather.

The top label will remain
Margaret Godfrey, and a lesser-
priced line of Icathers will also be
sold.
