dents have moved a few steps
closer to the peace and quiet
they have fought for.

In late March, the Pacific
Shooters Association (PSA)
installed more than $30,000 worth
of sound-proofing equipment at
their Olympic-standard target
range.

Earlier the same month, the
North Shore Skeet Club lost its
appeal of a permanent injunction
restraining the club from breaking
the municipal noise bylaw.

That ruling likely hammered the
final nail in the coffin for the club’s
activities on the North Shore.

Barry Long, the lawyer for a
group of 13 angry residents in the
area of Robinson and Draycott
roads, welcomed the appeal’s dis-
missal by the B.C, Court of Appeal
March 17,

“Essentially, we have dealt with
the most offensive of the offending
partics.” he said, adding his group
has now turned its attention to the
PSA,

He said sound-proofing mea-
sures taken by that club don’t com-
pletely muffle the gun blasts.

Residents have outstanding
legal action against the PSA, but
the legal route has been suspended
while the PSA and residents try to
resolve the problem without an
expensive court battle.

Long characterized discussions
with the PSA as open-minded and
meaningful.

He said residents will not give

the PSA “much more time” before
it resumes its legal option. But he
added the PSA can silence its
range — something that was not an
option for shotgun shooters at the
skeet club.

“We are determined to make it
soundproof” he said, pointing to
soundproof facilities in
Washington and California to
prove a silent gun range is possi-
ble.
