FASHION Designer Virani simplifies the matter FEIZAL VIRANI changes his name Feizal Virani recenily made the decision to change the spelling of his name and change the name of his label. Feizal Virani is now Fyzal Virani. and his line is also called Fyzal Virani, which replaces Virani Collection. “It’s easier this way,’ states Madjid Harandi, president of Alphaco Fashions Inc., the firm which manufactures and distributes the Virani line. **It is easier to pronounce cor- rectly. There were many mistakes concerning the way the press and the public would refer to Feizal, calling him ‘Feezal’ because of the ‘ei’ placement.”’ Also, Hirandi explains that the press always referred to the designs as the Feizal Virani line instead of the Jabel, Virani Collec- tion. Therefore the new label is Fyzal Virani. Harandi does not feel the ad- see justment will hinder the newly growing firm, but says, ‘‘It may be a little difficult for people to remember the name for the first couple of seasons, but then it will be fine.’* Alphaco Fashions is located at 401 - 164 Water St., Vancouver. Lovely affordable Latest trend is... forget about it IF THERE'S any. obvious trend for spring '92 fashions, it's prob- ably the lack of trendiness. Individuality seems to be what’s really in, and it seems to be here to stay. . Women are tired of being slaves * to fashion. Everything old has in- variably become new again, and again, and again, and again. It’s exhausting. The recession is also'a big fac- tor in ali of this. How many peo- ple can afford to buy a new ward- tobe when they find out that their current one isn’t ‘‘in’’ anymore? Discarding garb that’s “‘out,’’ only to find that it’s ‘tin’? the next .°36280n is a frustration nobody _wants to go through anymore. ‘Onc thing that is ‘‘out’’ is frivolity. The. ¢! s are what people are -investing in; these staple clothes _ that never seem to gc out of style. . .That’s why designers such as _Liz, Claiborne ‘and Ralph Lauren are doing so well. Their designs offer versatility and quality. Wemen want to be able to go from day to evening with just the change of a jacket or scarf, not an entire outfit. When women do want to add frivolity to their wardrobes, it is a reflection cf mood and personal interest rather than what the latest lock is. ; Women will spend money on a far-from-practical outfit for that ‘special occasion. But, to be sure, it won't be so frivolous that it can’t be worn again. Many of today’s designers are changing with the times and the needs of today’s woman. Donna Karan, one of New York’s most up and coming de- signers, says, ‘‘What’s going on all ayound us inspires everything I do, every piece I design.’’ She realizes that designers no longer dominate what people wear, but what people want to wear is dominating the designs that are created. Over the years, there have been so many changes in the fashion world that the only constant has been change itself. That trend seems to have conse to a halt, and life is a lot easier for those who just want to look good. dresses and accessories from in- fant to 6X. Wee World is phasing out of secondhand clothing.
