CUSTOM DRAPERIES AND VALANCES labour $7.50 per panel untined, $8.50 lined Dear Editor: 1 am a daily user of Cates Park CUSTOM BEDSPREADS AND COVERS and, as a result, notice new ob- jects quickly. Recently, | was intrigued by the appearance of wooden stakes and flasher tape on trees, logs and -bushes which stretched from one side of the park to the other, marking a line along the trail towards Mackenzie-Barge, along the edge of the grass by the beach and through the trees to the playground and water edge at the other side. | called North Van- couver District Hall to enquire what these were for. 1 was dismayed to hear that the plan is to ‘improve’’ the park by laying a surfaced (ce- ment/blacktop) seawaik the width of the park. The natural trails would be removed and it would slice across the green by the light- house and follow the water’s edge. The plan involves a major, cost- ly change to the face of the park. I find this extremely disappoin- ting. I enjoy the natural look and feel of Cates and do not relish the thought of a pedestrian and cycle freeway along the water's edge. I’m sure others would share my concern if they knew of this plan and would let the district office know of their concerns. K. Agriculture Canada has created hysteria in the local populace as they did in 1979 when they stated that our forests would be devastated and our economy ruined by - the gypsy moth unless an aerial spray campaign was initiated. Citizens concerned about health risks from the spray mobiliz- ed and stopped the campaign. No devastation occurred — the economy was not affected. The moth did not multiply in this different habitat.
