Restructure committee

A MEMBER of the Bowen Island Restructure Committee
has taken exception to remarks made this week by the
committee’s chairman that the Islands Trust is attempting
to intimidate residents into voting against municipal status

for the island.

In a Nov. 13 News story, com-
mittee chairman Bob Wiltshire
said the Islands Trust, which ad-
ministers land-use decisions on
Bowen Island and 12 other Trust
islands, is using scare tactics to
convince residents to vote no in
the Bowen Island incorporation
referendum, scheduled to be held
tomorrow.

Committee, said Martin’s letter is
not intimidating residents to vote

that other committee members do
not share Wiltshire’s view.

“*My biggest concern is that he’s
speaking on behalf of the restruc-
ture committee as the chairman
and he has no right to do so. He

can speak out as a private citi-
zen,’ said Johnson. “His com-
ments give the appearance that we
all agree with him and that's not
truc.””

Johnson added that it is not in-
timidation just because the Islands
Trust ran an open letter in the
local Bowen Island newspaper.

Jotinson also took exception to
Wiltshire’s comments that ‘the
Islands Trust is also telling resi-
dents that even if the island
decides to become a municipality
the Trust would go to the provin-
cial government and ask for
changes to the existing Islands
