After Harrah died suddenly in 1978, this magnificent collection, atong with Harrah's hotel and ca- sino empire, was sold to the Holi- day Corporation. Most of the cars were then auctioned off to various collectors and museums around the world. Many Nevada residents and car enthusiasts mourned the loss of this great collection, and there was considerable pressure to keep it together. Holiday Corporation generously donated 175 vehicles, then worth $18 million, and a $3 million library to the William F. Harrah foundation, 2 public foundation started with the intent of building a new rauseum.
