Incandescent and halogen reflec-
tor bulbs will fit recessed fixtures,
downlights, spotlights or track

lighting. Any combination of these

fixtures and bulbs can be used as
general lighting in a low-ceilinged
kitchen or, when angled directly
over work arcas, as task lighting.

Pendant lamps — particularly
rise-and-fall pendants — raised
high over a kitchen table, will light
up an entire room. Lowered, the
light will be focused on the table
top, setting the mood for a quiet
dinner for two or a family board

Today's tuxurious bathrooms
need general and task lighting, and
also accent lighting. For maximum
versatility, each form of lighting
should be controlled separately. A
dimmer switch controlling the gen-
eral lighting is a must. This allows
you to match the lighting to your
mood: bright light for a quick
shower, or just a hint of light for a
long, relaxing soak in the tub.

A great deal of hustle and bustle
in the bathroom is centred around
the vanity counter. Task lighting in
this grooming area should be
shadowless and, above all, flatter-
ing. [t's also a good idea to mount
the fixtures on the wall — above or
on both sides of the mirror.
Downlights mounted on the ceiling
directly above the counter spill the
light over the top of your head and
leave your face in shadows.
