Australian artists speak

PRESENTATION HOUSE Gallery
has organized a series of special
events to introduce the public to
participating Australian
photographers and filmmakers in
its upcoming exhibit, Aurora
Australis: Film and Photographic
Works.

Before the show opens on April
6, Australian artist Anne Ferran
will present a two-day workshop
on stage photography, March 24
and 25 at Women in Focus, 857
Beatty Street. Registration is
limited to 12 people. Phone

Ferran will also discuss her re-
cent work, part of which was in-
spired by the research of famed
neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot, at
Presentation House Gallery on
Wednesday, March 28 at 7 p.m.

Her photographic series | am the
Rehearsal Master consists of im-
ages of young female models, im-
itating 19th century hysterics, who
were watched, drawn and
photographed by men.

On March 26 and 27, Dennis
Del Favero will present two lec-
tures at Emily Carr College of Art
and Design.

Artist, teacher, designer and
writer, Del Favero will speak on
the iinks between contemporary
visual imagery and different: war
preparation systems in a lecture
entitled, L’Altra Citta — The Image
as Fortress, The City as Bunker,
The World as Battle Zone — on
March 27 at 7 p.m.

The March 26 lecture, with
limited seating. examines the rela-
tionship between the photo/
electronic image and the con-
struction of social life and individ-
ual identity.

Both lectures are free.

Local playwright’s work featured

Maureen Robinson’s new work
Nitebooth opens March 24 at the
New Play Centre.
