Foragers explore the wild MARCH JS a special time of year — buds burst, cones flower, for- esters finish winter harvesting and children celebrate their school spr- ing break. Parents who are looking for something different for their children to do during the holiday can sign them up for Forest Foragers, a forest program pres- ented by the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GYRD) at the Seymour Demonstration Forest. The program will be held on Wednesday, March 30 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Youngsters will explore the forest looking for such signs of spring as young seedlings, new shoots and fresh deer browse. They will discover the secrets of the watershed; where drinking water comes from, how to identify trees, why some seedlings wear plastic protectors and how to get rid of knot holes. Children must be eight or nine years old. Enrolment is limited to {0 children. The Forest Foragers program will run rain or shine. Children should wear waterproof footwear and warm clothing that can get dirty, and should bring a light snack in a daypack so their hands are free.
