But unlike a lot of restaurants and eateries that cater to the sun- befuddled and easy-zoing sun and fun beach crowd, Cafe has scritnped neither on qual- ity nor quantity. A sampled order of Beach Side Steamed Mussels ($4.95) came adrift in a white wine cream and herb sauce that was a savory blend of cream, white fish stock, white wine and onions sprinkled with fresh parsley and oregano. Croutons were homemade and dressing was distinctive without the Beach Side being bambastic and varlic-laden. Entrees tested included the even ing’s excelent special of it deboned trout stuffed with shrimps and smoked salmon ($9.98), Alo osumpled was the Beach Side’s most expensive dish: a New York Steak with peppercorn sauce (SI0.98). The meat. a good-sized slab, was grilled to precise rare specifications and came drenched in a forthright peppercorn sauce sprinkled generously with fresh pink pepper- corns. Entrees, both of which were very good, came with helpings of chunky fried potatoes and a side of pan-fried carrots and zucchini. Open from ft a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sundays, the Beach Side Cate adds one more good quality restaurant to what is destined to be a vibrant new social and recreational area of West Vancouver. Plans by the restaurant’s management to open up the Beach Side ’s south wall to the sun and sea spray af the newly available harbor view will surely add to its attraction.
