The 17-year-old North Vancouver resident sustained a punctured lung, according to the North Vancouver RCMP. To press time Thursday, the teenager had undergone surgery at Lions Gate Hospital. He was upgraded trom critical to serious, but sta- ble condition in the intensive care unit. Police declined to release the teenager's name. North Vancouver RCMP Const. Heidi Hoffman said the Caucasian teenager and his girlfriend had just Jeft the movie theatre when he was attacked. Police arrested a 17-year-old North Vancouver male. Police described the suspect as being of Iranian descent. Hoffman said the victim and suspect had a history of conflicts with cach other. The stabbing occurred shortly before midnight as movie patrons of the late showing of the teenage sex comedy American Pie were leaving the Cineplex Odeon Cinemas on Brooksbank Avenue. The movie drew close toa full theatre, according to one witness. With movie patrons still in the lobby, a “girl” ran in saying, “Does anyone have a first aid kit? Somebody has been stabbed.” Outside, the injured teen was face down on the ground. His white jeans were blood-stained and blood was pooling around his foot, according to the witness. People were crowded around him, some trying, to apply pressure to his wounds. Other shocked movie patrons made comments such as “Oh my gosh.” A large butcher knife was near the injured teen’s feet. About “30 seconds Jater lots” of police cars zoomed into the shop- ping centre.
