“North Van
to charge
for false
alarm calls

NORTH VANCOUVER City and
District will begin in January to bill
property owners when the police
attend more than three false alarms
at the same location in one calen-
dar year.

According to a North Vancouver
RCMP spokesman, each time RCMP
officers attend a false alarm, they will
attach a notice to a window or door of
the property to advise the owner that the
police attended to the scene.

The notice will also inform the owner
that it will cost $130 for the fourth and

any subsequent false alarms activated in
a calendar yeur.

{f the bills are not paid, the fees can
be added to municipal property taxes in
afrears as services rendered.

North Vancouver posts more than
6,000 false alarms every year.

The number is growing rapidly as
more people purchase alarm systems.
False alarm calls account for about 11%
of all calls received by the North
Vancouver RCMP.

Through October this year, there were
3,642 false alarms recorded in the dis-
trict and 2,009 false alarms in the city.
