Research grants awarded

NINETEEN CANADIAN
researchers have been award-
ed grants to analyse a variety
of housing-related issues,.
David Dingwall, Minister
responsible for -Canada
Mortgage: and. -Housing
Corporation (CMHC), an-
nounced recently.

One hundred. and twenty-
three eligible applications
were submitted for considera-
‘tion. .

“The interest shown in
this competition by so.many
researchers, and the wide
scope of ideas submitted

demonstrates the commit-
ment of Canadians to housing
research and development,”
said Dingwall, “The work to
be done by the winners will
enhance our understanding of
housing issues and help us to
find new solutions to hous-
ing-related questions.”

The grants, which may be
up to $20,000, wil! be made
under CMHC’s External
Research Program.

The program encourages
private and non-for-profit
sector. researchers, as well as
those employed in academic

institutions, to carry out inno-
vative and relevant research
into housing issues.

Winners in the External
Research Program competi-
tion were selected on the
basis of the merit of their pro-
posals by a committee of
housing experts.

The results of research
sponsored -by CMHC are
available, free of charge.
