Possee inquest: police understanding of entry procedure differed

NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP officers who helped ex-
ecute a search warrant at a house where a 22-year-old man
was fatally shot by the police believed the officer who fired
the shot was first going to knock at the door and announce
his entry, a coroner’s inquest beard Thursday.

Daniel Possee was fatally shot

had earlier testified that Possee
turned towards the officers with
the pellet rifle, and Pollitt, who
believed Possee was armed with a
shotgun, said he thought Possee
was going to shoot in their direc-
tion.

The police entered the basement
suite of the house unannounced.

Daniel Possee was not named in
the search warrant.

The police were instead looking
for Possee’s sister Kelly and her
boyfriend Justin King.

Neither King nor Kelly Possee

were in the house at the time of
the drug raid, and the police
found only a small amount of
marijuana in the house.
Under cross-examination by
Derek Corrigan, the lawyer for

the Possee family, Pollitt admitted
that an RCMP officer was under
the impression that Pollitt was
first going to knock al the door of
the basement suite and announce
his entry.
