Fred was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1919, the elder son of Mary and Col. Frederick Snowden Skinner, He gradu- ated from Princeton University in 1940 with a degree in Political Science, and served in the U.5. Army Air Force in the Hawaiian Islands from 1982 to 1946. After a brief stint at the Montreal Gazette, Fred came to Vancouver in 1946, where he worked on the news desh of the Vancouver Sun for the next 34 years. He was highly respected at the Sua as “an editor's editor.” Fred was a devoted family man, keen sailor and cross country skier, and staunch sup- porter of the NOP.
