Firings denied PREMIER MIKE Harcourt denied Monday during a visit to the North Shore that his government has fired most of the Social Credit-appointed board of directors of North Vancouver-based BC Raii. Last week Transportation Minister Art Charbonneau replaced several BC Rail directors, including board chairman Gerry Strongman. The new chairman is David Jiles. BC Rail president Pau! McElligot is being kept on in his current position. But Harcourt said the BC Rail board of directors knew his government would be making changes. “They weren't fired. They were replaced. Their terms ran out,’’ said Harcourt. ‘‘The president contacted me and ssid that he'd offered his letter of resignation. The board expected there would be changes and there has been.” Most B.C. Crown corporation directors are expected to be replaced during the next few months. Pot seized A NORTH Vancouver man faces drug charges after the police shut down a marijuana-growing operation in the 600-biock of Sylvan Avenue on Feb. 21. According to the West Vancouver Police, the North Vancouver RCMP and the West Vancouver Police drug sections searched a Sylvan Avenue home at approximate- ly 10 p.m. "The police seized 33 pounds of marijuana from the residence. The marijuana had an estimated street value of $210,000. Police also seized hydroponic growing equipment. - Brian Clarence Lacina, 37, faces charges of possession ofa narcotic for the purpose cf trafficking and cultiva- tion of a narcotic. As a result of the investigation, Maple Ridges RCMP ‘were directed to a residence located on 207th Street in Maple Ridge. The police seized 22 pounds of marijuana. Maple Ridge resident Daniel O'Conner faces a charge of possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking in connection with the seizure.
