Craft fair proceeds go towards playground THOUGHTS OF a white Christmas have turned to green this year at Monteray Elementary School. Students, staff, and parents are pteparing for a craft fair to be held in aid of a community playground. “‘There are no grass fields and virtually no parks between Delbrook and Lonsdale above Montroyal and our aim is to build a playground which will serve the entire community.’’ says playground committe chaiperson, Alice Swanton. The project is named Visibly Improved School In Our Neighbourhood (VISION), and one of the objectives is to redevelop the playground in a way that would provide opportunities for children to be creative in the playground environment. Last spring parent and staff volunteers built a garden area adjacent to Monteray Elementary School, and later a sand area was also added. Says Vice-Principal Rutyh Addy, ‘‘We would like to encourage local participation in planning the VISION project. We're hoping that in ad- dition to fundraising, our craft fair will heighten community awareness.” . The event will include a wide variety of hand-crafted goods, video entertainment, Christmas music performed by students, a fishpond, and a tea room. The craft fair is being held on Friday, December 7 between 3 and 7 p.m. at Monteray Elementary School, 4343 Starlight Way, North Van- couver.
