For those who are preparing their vegetable gardens, there are a few
simple rules to ensure success:

1. Lime thoroughly right now to “Sweeten" the soil — Caution — fresh
lime in your potato patch will cause skin scabs, so in this area lime
should have been applied last fall.

. Many young plants “damp off” due to fungi in the soil — a powder
fungicide such as ATOX should be applied soon after liming and again
as seedlings emerge.

. You can never go wrong by tilling in a few bags of mushroom manure
which adds good fibre and nutrients, as well as balancing acidity.
